Yang, Zhou published in IEEE Journal

ESSIC / CICS-MD Associate Research Scientist Hu Yang is the lead author of a new publication in press at IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing.  ESSIC / CICS-MD post-doctoral associate Jun Zhou (STAR/SMCD) is a co-author.

This article describes a new methodology to simulate lunar emission at microwave frequencies as a means of monitoring the calibration and stability of the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) onboard the Suomi NPP satellite.  The new model offers improved certainty in characterizing the long-term drift of instrument calibration, giving way to more accurate global observations from space.

At ESSIC, Hu Yang works on NPP / JPSS Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) calibration/validation as project principal investigator. His main study field includes passive microwave radiometer calibration/validation, satellite geolocation, and satellite observation simulation.  He is also a member of IEEE and AMS and has published over 40 peer reviewed journals.

This article was posted online on June 28 and can be viewed publicly at the following: “Developing Vicarious Calibration for Microwave Sounding Instruments Using Lunar Radiation”.
