Wang, Yu, Yoo, Qian, Shao Win SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing 2020 Best Papers Award

The ICT, FPM, and scan mirror temperatures of GOES-17 ABI for May 3, 2019.

ESSIC/CISESS Scientists Zhipeng Wang, Fangfang Yu, Hyelim Yoo, Haifeng Qian and Xi Shao have been honored with a SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing 2020 Best Papers Award for their article, “On-orbit calibration and characterization of GOES-17 ABI IR bands under dynamic thermal conditions”.

The paper, which was selected as the best paper for Photo-Optical Instrumentation and Design, summarizes efforts by NOAA’s GOES-R Calibration Working Group (CWG), in collaboration with other teams, to evaluate and alleviate negative impacts of warmer and floating focal plane module temperatures on ABI IR calibration.

Xi Shao is an associate research scientist at ESSIC/CISESS and Department of Astronomy of University of Maryland. He supports radiometric calibration and validation work for Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument and METimage on EPS-SG.
