NOAA Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (DOISST) Version 2.1

ESSIC/CISESS Visiting Research Scientist Tom Smith is coauthor of an article on DOISST v.2.1 coming out in the September 2021 issue of the Journal of Climate. The paper, titled “Assessment and Intercomparison of NOAA Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (DOISST) Version 2.1”, shows how the improved NOAA operational analysis compares to several other available analyses.

NOAA Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature

ESSIC/CISESS Visiting Research Scientist Tom Smith has co-authored a new paper in the Journal of Climate published online on June 17th. This article, titled “Assessment and Intercomparison of NOAA Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (DOISST) version 2.1”, shows the relative quality of a NESDIS SST analysis of NOAA Daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature (DOISST) version 2.1. The paper shows that the current version of the analysis has skill comparable to other global SST analyses.

Kongoli, Smith Develop Technique to Improve Snow Depth Product

Last month, an article titled “Mapping of Snow Depth by Blending Satellite and In-Situ Data Using Two-Dimensional Optimal Interpolation—Application to AMSR2” was published in the journal Remote Sensing by co-authors Cezar Kongoli, ESSIC/CISESS associate research scientist, Tom Smith, ESSIC/CISESS visiting research scientist, and Jeff Key, chief of NOAA’s Advanced Satellite Products Branch.
