ESSIC Celebrates 2023 Peer Awards

As a now traditional part of the ESSIC end-of-year Holiday Party, two annual peer awards were presented to honor the year’s Best Paper and the Employee of the Year. This year, Director Ellen Williams presented these awards to Chelsea Parker, Assistant Research Scientist, and Brenda Torney, Payroll Coordinator.

ESSIC Scientists Earn NASA HBG Peer Awards

NASA recently announced the selections for the 2023 Hydrosphere, Biosphere, and Geophysics (HBG) Annual Peer Awards. Several ESSIC scientists were awarded for scientific achievement and scientific/technical support. The ceremony commemorating these awards was held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 2:00pm.

“Unseen Heroes” Awards for the S-NPP CDP Reset Recovery Team

On December 6, the NOAA Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Program Office announced that the “Unseen Heroes” award would go to the Central Data Processor (CDP) Reset Recovery Team. It was given “in recognition of efforts to restore the Suomi-National Polar-Orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite instruments after a central data processor reset.” This was a major effort in collaboration between the JPSS SDR teams and OSPO to recover the SNPP satellite after the instrument entered “Sun-pointing mode,” leading all of the onboard JPSS instruments to go offline and require restarting and revalidation. CISESS Seed Grant Awards Announced

CISESS has announced four Seed Grant Program awards to help develop transformative research that requires a proof of concept to assist NOAA in recognizing and supporting new topics that eventually will be carried out in CISESS.
