Science on a Sphere is used for its first formal presentation

ESSIC post-doctoral associate Michael Peterson and ESSIC visiting assistant research scientist Scott Rudlosky recently provided the first formal presentation on the new the Science on a Sphere (SOS) display at the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction in College Park.  SOS is a globe upon which planetary data and animations can be projected. The presentation featured new imagery from the active Atlantic hurricane season.  The technology displayed high-speed lightning videos alongside simultaneous Geostationary Lightning Mapper observations. About 40 people attended the talk titled “A First Look at Lightning from GOES-16 on SOS.”
