Images processed in-house by Wilfrid Schroeder were featured in a NASA Earth Observatory article, January 19. The first fire images were acquired by the Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Preparatory Project Visible Infrared Imager Radiometer Suite (NPP/VIIRS) and are the tip of the iceberg for the VIIRS fire algorithm development and validation activities. The positive feedback was received from the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program managers as a result of our effort to start evaluating and analyzing the new data almost immediately after the infrared channels began operating. A number of other space-science websites have also used these images.
