The Mae Jemison U.S Science Reading Room in Mamelodi, South Africa, hosted ESSIC Assistant Research Scientist, Dr. Mathew Sapiano on August 21. During his presentation, Sapiano discussed the importance of weather forecasting and predicting. Sixty-five students attended the seminar to learn more about crucial weather patterns and their various effects. The Reading Room was created through a partnership between the University of Pretoria and the United States Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. It has become a facility where students, teachers, and community members in Mamelodi can go to access and learn about science.
