Isaac Moradi Joins UMD Research Council

Isaac Moradi smiles for the camera, wearing a red gridded button-up and a red tieESSIC /CISESS Research Scientist Isaac Moradi was recently elected as a member of the University of Maryland Research Council. The Research Council is task force deployed by the University Senate that provides guidance to the UMD Vice President for research on matters such as:

 

  • Formulating and reviewing the policies regarding the research and its relation with graduate and undergraduate programs
  • Reviewing the research needs of students and faculties and making recommendations for increasing the research productivity of the University
  • Reviewing policers on the establishment and reorganization of centers that are primarily involved in conducting research and do not offer programs of instruction.

 

Moradi also serves on the UMD Senate representing PTK faculty as well as the Senate Committee on Committees, responsible for identifying individuals for serving in different Senate and University committees and councils.

 

Moradi joined Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC), University of Maryland in 2011. His research is focused on microwave remote sensing including, calibration and validation of satellite microwave observations, retrieving geophysical variables from satellite microwave measurements, microwave radiative transfer modeling, assimilation of all-sky microwave observations into NWP models, and Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSE). He is affiliated with NASA Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) and NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).
