Getirana publishes new study, featured in NASA video

ESSIC Assistant Research Scientist Augusto Getirana is the author of a new study to be published in a pending release of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Journal of Hydrometeorology.  The paper entitled, "Extreme water deficit in Brazil detected from space,"  details how spacebourne remote sensing data is advancing the understanding, dection and monitoring of  droughts and extreme water-related events.  The study utilizes data from the Gravimetry Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission, the second mission under the NASA Earth System Science Pathfinder (ESSP) Program.

Getirana was also featured in the NASA Goddard video segment (below) entitled, "Brazil’s Extreme Drought Seen From Space."
