GEO Blue Planet just held its 5th annual symposium in Accra, Ghana. This year’s symposium, themed Local Action in Support of Global Traction, is specifically geared towards improving GEO Blue Planet’s engagement with African nations in an effort to expand the Earth Observation (EO) community of practice, strengthen local capacity and provide access to resources, tools and services.
Geo Blue Planet is a network of ocean and coastal observers, social scientists, and end-user representatives. ESSIC/CISESS Scientist Emily Smail, who works with STAR/SOCD, is the Executive Director of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Blue Planet Initiative.
