ESSIC Associate Research Scientist Santiago Gassó recently gave an online presentation to AP Environmental Science students at the Blair High School in Montgomery County. The presentation was a general overview of aerosols (including some slides about their relation with the current pandemic and importance of masks) and NASA satellites used for observing aerosols. After the talk, a Q&A section followed with lots of questions about what it is like to be a scientist
In addition to his role at ESSIC, Gassó is also a research associate at NASA Goddard. He specializes in observational studies of aerosols, clouds, and their interactions using a combination of satellite detectors. He has published several journal articles on the subject of dust transport at high latitudes as characterized by satellite, model, and surface observations.
