World Meteorological Organization (WMO) representatives and five well-known lightning scientists from across the globe recently gathered at CICS-MD for a three day meeting. The WMO recently added lightning to its list of essential climate variables, and this meeting sought to begin the process of defining what this means. ESSIC visiting assistant research scientist Scott Rudlosky and post-doctoral associate Michael Peterson facilitated the meeting, which included a visit to the NOAA Center for Weather and Climate Prediction to observe operations.
