Nominations for Annual ESSIC Awards now Open

The newly formed “2012 ESSIC Awards Committee” is now accepting nominations for the annual “Employee of the Year” and “Best Research Faculty Paper” awards.

The $1,000 Employee of the Year award was created to recognize an ESSIC staff member who’s exhibited “excellent administrative work”, great work ethic, and initiatives to improve effectiveness and efficiencies at the Center.  Nominations should consist of a statement sent by e-mail to eyaward@essic.umd.edu by any employee at ESSIC.

The Best Research Faculty Paper award (also a $1,000 prize) was created to recognize the excellent research work implemented by ESSIC research faculty and scientists, as well as the important role they have in the Center’s success in the earth system scientific arena. The award will be given to the lead author research scientist who had a paper published in a refereed journal throughout 2011-2012. Nominations will consist of a statement sent by e-mail to bpaward@essic.umd.edu by any employee at ESSIC. Self-nominations are permitted, and the nomination should summarize why the chosen paper and lead author is worthy of this recognition.

Nominations for both awards are due by November 15. The winners of the two awards will be announced at the ESSIC Holiday Party on Friday, December 14.
