Dr. Zhanqing Li Joins National Research Council’s Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate

 Dr. Zhanqing Li smiles in a suit in front of a blurry backgroundDr. Zhanqing Li, Professor at ESSIC and University of Maryland’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, was recently appointed onto the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (BASC) by the Chair of the National Research Council.

 

The Board serves as a source for objective, independent advice to the federal government and others. Through its board meetings, study committees, and convening functions, BASC strives to advance understanding of atmospheric science, meteorology, and climate; foster application of this knowledge to benefit the public; guide US research programs so they address key scientific opportunities and the needs of the nation; and ensure that the voice of the science community is considered in government planning and decision making. As a board member, Li will ensure that the voice of the scientific community is considered in government planning and decision making.

 

Li is a professor at AOSC and ESSIC at University of Maryland. He has engaged in a wide range of studies concerning climate change, atmospheric physics, terrestrial and atmospheric environment and has over 350 peer-reviewed SCI publications. Last November, Li was honored as a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher
