Dr. Jingfeng Huang is an Assistant Research Scientist at CMNS-Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center. He graduated from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2000 with his Bachelor of Environmental Science and Engineering and a second Bachelor of Enterprise Management. He received his MPhil degree at The University of Hong Kong Science and Technology, Hong Kong, China in 2002. He continued his PhD study on Remote Sensing at The University of Manchester, Manchester, United Kingdom and obtained his PhD degree in 2006. Before he joined University of Maryland College Park in 2012, Dr. Huang developed his scientific research career previously at multiple government agencies and universities including University of Miami, University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Morgan State University.

He worked for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center for three years during 2009 and 2012 where he became an expert in aerosol remote sensing and atmospheric science. He is currently a key member in the new Suomi-NPP VIIRS Aerosol Calibration/Validation Science Team, working for NOAA NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). In recent years, Dr. Huang’s research interests span lab experiment, field campaign, satellite product development and validation, and atmospheric science in recent years. His multidisciplinary background covers but not limited to broad fields from environmental science and engineering to atmosphere and earth science, from remote sensing to geographical information system, from environmental hydraulics to hydrology, from land processes to atmospheric science and research, and from satellite aerosol algorithm development to data validation and applications.

Dr. Huang is currently the Seminar Coordinator for the ESSIC Seminar Series and the general secretary for the Chinese-American Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (COAA, coaaweb.org). In his spare time, Dr. Huang likes his hobby of jogging; if you are interested at jogging along with him on the beautiful trail behind the ESSIC building, feel free to get in touch with him jhuang8@umd.edu.
