Cooperative Institute Awarded Outstanding Qualification in NOAA SAB Midterm Review
COLLEGE PARK, MD – The University of Maryland’s Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites (CICS) has received an “outstanding” qualification from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Science Advisory Board (SAB), in a review that assessed the Institute’s current research progress.
The review took place three and a half years into a five year cooperative agreement, between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Maryland.
The SAB panel comprised by former Raytheon VP, Mike Keebaugh, Senior Research Scientist, Dr. Michael D. King, Professor and Director of CIMSS, Dr. Steve Ackerman, and Senior Staff Engineer/Scientist, Dr. Pamela G. Emch, conducted the Institute’s review in November 2012.
In an email addressed to Institute faculty, partners, and affiliates, CICS-MD Director Dr. E. Hugo Berberry wrote, “It is my pleasure to inform that the NOAA Science Advisory Board (SAB) approved today the report on the CICS midterm review. My appreciation goes to all of you, as the outstanding qualification that CICS received is the result of your dedication and continued contributions.”
The qualification rating awarded by the SAB, enables the University to submit a follow-on five year proposal in the coming months, which would extend the existing cooperative agreement to 2018.
The Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites is administered by the University of Maryland’s Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center.
